Presidents Message

Hello Members!

On Thursday August 14th Sue and I flew back home to Venice from Toledo Ohio. We had a great time seeing our kids and grandchildren and attending our 50th High School Reunion and visiting with a lot of our old classmates, most of which we have not seen since our last reunion eight years ago. The trip was great but it sure is good to be back home again with all of our friends here in Venice.

I want to thank Bill Trier for taking over for me and running the last General Membership Meeting in August while we were away on our trip. I also want to thank Bill Trier for all of his work setting up the August breakfast tour, unfortunately the weather did not cooperate with us and we had to cancel out the night before. We will try to reschedule this event some time in the future.

Please mark your calendars for Saturday, September 13th for our Venice Region and Sunshine Region joint caravan tour to ‘Troyers Dutch Heritage Restaurant’ for a great buffet breakfast. This should be a special day of fun to spend together with our friends from the Sarasota Region. Refer to the fliers or our activities list for more information and directions. Please call Bill Trier to register for this tour @ 941-408-9601.

As all of you should know, Monday September 8th at 7:00 PM is a very important General Membership Meeting. At this meeting we will be making the final plans and arrangements for our Annual Collector Car Show, Sunday October 5th at Centennial Park in Downtown Venice. Please try hard to attend this meeting.

As many of you already know from attending the August General Membership Meeting, the City of Venice Fire Department is planning to completely restore ‘Old Betsey” the cities antique fire engine. The city is in the process of applying for a grant to pay for this project. Our club has been asked and we have agreed to participate with the city in this project, not in money, but in the restoration of the fire engine. If you would like to help out and have not signed up with Bill Trier please do so.

Please give me a call if you have any comments, suggestions or ideas as to how we can make our club better or more enjoyable. We need everyone’s help to make our club prosper in the future.

                                                  Thanks,

                                                        Gary Felker
