The Great Train Ride
A Tour of Southern Georgia and political history

October 29-30, 2004

The last hurrah of this year’s touring season came about on a gorgeous weekend replete with warm fall weather and a fantastic gathering of old cars and close friends (and many new friends along the way). This was not only one of the best tours yet, but one of the best turnouts of club members in a long time. Joining our tour guides, Wayne and Rosa Ann Hadden, were: Dan & Carol Rainey; Bobby & Nell Hollingsworth; Tom & Paula Link; Gene & Ginny Densmore; Gary & Betty Edwards; John & Glenda Schanbacher; Larry & Shirley Benson; Neal & Nancy Davis; Bill & Judy Brundydge; Richard & Mabel Duncan; Tommy & Linda Sykes; Russ & Nancy Haines; Bill & Nancy Thompson; Bob & Carol Love; as well as guests of the Hadden’s and the Thompson’s.

Some of us that drove our old (and some, not so old) cars left the parking lot of JB’s Barbeque just north of the FL-GA line on Friday afternoon for a leisurely run up to the Retreat at Lake Blackshear (if you can call driving 60 mph in a 57 year old car leisurely!). But, we did all right, Henry Ford and the Dodge boys knew what they were doing back then.

As is our usual way of traveling, we only took one small detour enroute to our destination (Wayne said it was the navigator’s fault, but then again, he was driving!). We arrived well in time for check in and to prepare for the second best thing to touring — eating! A very fine, although extended, European repast was enjoyed at Cordelia’s in the Retreat Resort.
