Milltown Murals Motorcade
Lakeland, GA

The Milltown Murals are so named because they depict the history of the town as it was in 1925, when its name was changed to Lakeland. Originally the town was called Alapaha from the time the post office was established in 1838 until 1857, when it became Milltown.

Numerous TRAACA members accepted the invitation of this small rural community to bring their cars up to help them celebrate. We also were able to turn this event into another of our one day tours. A pleasant two hour drive north brought us into a town typical of the rural south like many others in this area, but with one big difference. The main historic center of the town contained buildings with full size murals on their street-side facades. For once all the beautiful antique cars were not the main attraction, but a complement to the artistry depicted on the building walls.
