It’s always a lot of fun
to go to a car show put on by any of the hobby’s many groups and
clubs here in South Florida, but when you bring together two fine
clubs at a historic venue that includes antique aircraft, you have a
combination that is tough to beat. The Wings Over Miami Air
Museum at the Kendall-Tamiami Executive Airport was the host, and
the two clubs – the AACA South Florida Region and the Sunshine
Corvette Club – were the presenters, and that made it one of the
best car shows in a long time. In addition, the weather – cool and
clear (if a little breezy at times) – made the setting in the hangar
and on the tarmac at the museum the perfect spot to show off classic
cars and beautifully restored airplanes. Corvettes and MG’s and
Model A’s and Mustangs mingled with jets, biplanes, and there were
even two Catalinas… one of the Pontiac variety, and one of the PBY
seaplane variety.
Thanks to show coordinators Mel Mann and Chico Goldsmith and to show chairmen Tony Cueva of the AACA and Frank Jacobs of
the Sunshine Corvette Club, and the staff of the Wings Over Miami,
led by Konstantin Oulianov. Also thanks, in no particular
order, go to Tom Taylor of the Sunshine Corvette Club and our AACA
volunteers Bob Squier, Philip Williams, Mel Mann, Ira Shapiro,
Oscar Castro, Alex Fardales, Pat Carnevale, Andy Leavy, Tomas Hernandez and his
son Danny, Norman Kassoff, Guy Lewis, Maria Cueva, and Greg Paiewonsky.
Of course a BIG THANK YOU TO ALL 147 of you who brought out your
beautiful cars, motorcycles and motorized bike.
