Our traditional
picnic was held on a sunny, hot, and steamy Sunday with over 120
people finding their way to the pavilion at Matheson Hammock,
arriving in a variety of makes, models and years of antique
cars. There were even a few newly purchased additions. This
kept everyone busy while the small crew of dedicated chefs
prepared the food.
Our chefs this
year were to be all past presidents,
so Maurice
Hawa, Harry Goebel and Paul Cotner stepped up to cook,
along with Tomas Hernandez who hopefully will one day be a
future past president. Ira Shapiro,
with the help of Pat and Nan Carnevale,
supplied the cooks with ample helpings of hot dogs, hamburgers
and chicken. These were served with a variety of prize-winning
side dishes and desserts brought by the members.
The winner for
Best Side Dish was Jean Hawa with a delicious corn pudding and
the winner for the Best Dessert was Carman Tomazin with a German
Chocolate Cheesecake. Both winners received a $50.00 gift
certificate from Macys.
Thanks to
everyone who lent a hand, especially to the cooking crew, the
judges and those who help set up. Additionally thank you to all
the club members for providing the side dishes and desserts, and
the board members for making it yet another memorable picnic.
I did my
best with the years, makes and models of cars, so if you have
corrections or additions I would appreciate you sending them
along.
