Presidents Message
March 2009
Thanks to all the members who came to the March 4th meeting at the new
location ----Pizza Como & PC Pub. The meeting room was great and “free” and the menu had a zillion
choices! We had 32 members in attendance and everyone seemed to enjoy the varied food choices. It
was Hobby Night – and John and Kathy McCarthy coordinated the event. There were 5 lucky winners.
This is one of our annual events that everyone looks forward to. Each year we get a wide range of
hobby and/or craft interests, and this year was no exception. Thanks to everyone who brought
something to display.
On March 7th we head for the Butter Valley Golf Port in Bally for the
monthly club breakfast. Hope to see everyone there.
Lots of upcoming activities for the club. At our April 1st club
meeting, Joe Van Sciver will give us a presentation on his trip to London where he and his wife
competed in the London to Brighton Run for cars pre-1905. There were over 400 cars all pre-1905
----This was a very interesting challenge to say the least! The meeting and presentation will be held
at the Boyertown Museum beginning at 6:30 pm. Eat dinner before you arrive and we will have “free”
desserts after the meeting.
Also, coming up is the club breakfast on April 4th at John’s Diner in
Quakertown. Following breakfast we will tour to Chalfont to see John Desmond’s antique airplane and
car collection. This is an unusual collection of very early airplanes, and they are actually
restoring planes at this facility. He also has several antique cars on site. This should be a very
interesting tour…..it is not typically open to the public. See directions to John’s Diner in the
Event Calendar.
The May 2nd club breakfast is still in the planning stages….working on a
tour. Watch for more details in the April newsletter.
Pete and Gail deMauriac have volunteered to coordinate the May 6th meeting. May’s
meeting will be held at the Pizza Como & PC Pub in Pennsburg---see the Events Calendar in the
Newsletter for directions. Remember we are still looking for volunteers to coordinate other monthly
activities.
On May 9th I will take the “Active A’s” through Don Neilson’s
collection in Oaks. Pottstown Region has been through this collection before, but if you missed the
previous tour, or if you just want to see the collection again…meet the group at 9:30 am at Bob Evans
in Oaks or 9:45 am at the entrance of Neilson’s building.
On Saturday, May 23rd we will tour to Frackville to see Jack Rich’s car
collection. This is a fantastic collection of all types of cars. Also this collection is not
normally open to the public. We will leave from Michael’s Diner, Douglassville, at 9 am SHARP!
You can eat at home or at Michael’s Diner…..just be ready to leave by 9 am.
And by the way…..my statement in the February newsletter that “Spring was on the
way”… sorry about that snow storm!
See you down the road,
Bob Dare
