From the May 2004 issue:
DON CAPTURES TROPHY AT AACA BIRMINGHAM:

The National Spring Meet for the Southeastern Division was held in Birmingham, AL this year. 176 awards were given out, with Don McCullen taking a First Junior for his 1960 Chrysler in class 27D. This car will get a Senior on it’s next showing, since it wins just about everything in view. When you can pull major awards out of the Amelia Island Concours, you are going to win just about any show you enter. Congratulations to Don.

TRENTON EARLY V-8 FORD SHOW RESULTS:

There were about 50 cars for this annual show at the Ayers Medical Center in Trenton on May 15. Don again took the ‘Best of Show’ trophy for his 1960 Chrysler (fresh off the AACA Spring SE National meet). Jim Buffington and Mike Whyte each got a Top 20 trophy. Frank Wheelus, Bob Grimes, and Bob Sholtes also showed, but were not judged (these three are members of both clubs.) Old members Lee Mann and Dave Quinn had cars entered, with Lee getting a Top 20 award.

MY CLASSIC CAR FEATURES RICK & THE 1956 CONTINENTAL:

Last week, the television show ‘My Classic Car’ featured Rick Schmidt talking about and demonstrating the 1956 Continental that the family has owned for over 20 years. This particular car was the personal driver of William Clay Ford, and it includes several upgrades that were not available in any other car of this model. The engine, brakes, leather color and other features are unique, but they are all factory modifications. Because they are factory mods, the car still was able to get an AACA National first place in 2000. It was displayed at the 100th Ford anniversary celebration in Dearborn last year.

Rick did a really great professional presentation on the show. The program ‘only’ took about 9 hours to shoot, but they had to fight repeated noise problems during taping. Between circling airplanes, diesel trucks, and lawn mowers, it was a difficult shoot, but the results are really fine.
