Herbie the Matchmaker, 1981 TV

Herbie The Love Bug was a tv series spin off of the 4 feature length movies. It centers around veteran driver Jim Douglas and his so called life after racing. He gets into many misadventures with Herbie while trying to start a driving school and ends up into some sticky new situations. He also gets tied up with a female who dosn't like racing. An interesting premise which lasted 5 episodes(when combined they make up a mini movie). An interesting piece of tv history.The comical tale of a white Volkswagen with a mind of its own, who helps young couples find romance while he wins races all over the world. Herbie has slowed down over the finish line over the past decades and his latest owner, the wealthy, egotistical playboy, Simon Moore III, is furious. Herbie has lost one race too many and Simon orders the little car to junk. Across town at Chuck's Car Shop, Chuck is disgusted to find his mechanic, Hank, wallowing in self-pity over his failed racing career. So Chuck decides to use some tough love and tells Hank he either enters tomorrow's Big Fix Off contest and bring in much-needed business or he's fired. Hank must choose a car to repair and he picks Herbie. As the judges are introduced, Hank frantically works on getting Herbie started. Can Herbie get his motor running in order to win the race and to save Hank's job?
