Welcome to Monroe, Wisconsin home of the Joseph Huber Brewery. Monroe traces it's heritage back to 1839 when it became the county seat of Green County in Wisconsin Territory. Pioneers from Illinois, Indiana, Pennsylvania, and Virginia and immigrants from Ireland, England, Scotland, Norway, Germany and Switzerland came to settle this area which has come to have an international reputation for mouth-watering cheeses and award-winning beer. The famous Monroe Court House Square features an historic monument to Corporal William R. Hawkins in the 38th Wisconsin Volunteer Infantry who at the age of 18 was killed in the last battle of the Civil War, 2 April 1865. After lunch at the Turner Hall Ratskeller the Huber Brewery is just a short walk away.

In 1937 Nick Engelbert began to build an elaborate arched porch of concrete around the front entrance of his farmhouse, ultimately covering every inch of the outside surface of the house with concrete inlaid with shards of china, glass, beads, buttons, and sea shells.
