Meet
Chris Ritter, the new AACA Librarian

Chris comes to AACA from the Wyomissing Public Library,
where he was the Director since 2004. With a degree in
History from Bloomsburg University and a Master of Library
Science (MLS) earned at the University of Pittsburgh, he is
well qualified to shepherd our world class
AACA Library and Research
Center.
He brings a great deal of enthusiasm to the job and is
extremely excited to be taking over the reins from retiring
librarian Kim (Miller) Gardner. Over the last 29 years Kim
has certainly "set the bar high" with her extraordinary
commitment, service and contribution to AACA. Chris eagerly
accepts the positions' challenge going forward. Kim is very
pleased to be leaving her "life's work" in Chris' capable
hands and expects the library will continue to flourish
under his leadership.
Chris also serves as a board member of the
Golden Age Air Museum
in Bethel, Pennsylvania where he pilots its authentic, open
cockpit, 1929 WACO GXE biplane. Proud owner of a 1946
Cessna 140, his current project entails building a
single-seat plane.
So,
there's another great reason to drive that beautiful Antique
Vehicle to Hershey... to stop in your
National Headquarters
and your
Library & Research Center,
Meet Chris and Visit with us.
We always welcome the opportunity to greet and
assist members of our AACA Family!

Special
Message from YOUR Library & Research Center!
The AACA Library & Research Center receives a broad
range of research requests on a daily basis. Some days are
spent identifying cars in photographs, or tracking down
owner's and service manuals. To highlight the broad range
of information requests that we receive, the following two
examples are just some of the information that is stored at
the library.
A gentleman who is restoring a 1928 Chrysler LeBaron emailed
a request for information on Watson Stabilators,
specifically cutaway drawings and information on how
stabilators work. After examining our online catalog,
literature boxes, and accessory folders, we were able to
provide just what he needed in the form of brochures,
including a cutaway drawing & a description entitled "How
Stabilators Work".
Another recent request revolved around a Jumbo auxiliary
transmission for a Model T Ford. In this situation the
requestor wanted any parts numbers, pictures, diagrams,
advertisements, or specifications that we may have. The
library was able to produce copies of a parts list,
catalogs, and several advertisements.
Remember the AACA Library &
Research Center during your next
(or current) project. We will do everything we can to track
down that manual, advertisement, or anything else you need!

The
Antique Automobile Club of
America (AACA), the hub of the

excitement and passion for the hobby are always enough!
Because of YOU, AACA
continues to thrive as the premier destination for all
ages to enjoy and participate in the collectible vehicle
hobby! Thank You for your past, present and future
contributions!
|
And ...
then there was One!
In January, the last of the special built Pedal Cars is
going up for sale at the
RM Auctions in Scottsdale,
Arizona, with all the proceeds
benefiting the AACA Family. Created by the renowned
restorer Fran Roxas, "It's A Duesy" is truly another
magnificent work of art.
To date, the
successful 2008 Pedal Car Auction has raised over $100,000
for the AACA Family... a SINCERE THANK YOU to all the
builders for their exceptional donation not only the
brilliantly creative pedal cars but also the time and
artistry required to create them!
COMING SOON!!
A special section in your January/February Antique
Automobile magazine will spotlight these talented Pedal
Car Designers.

A
great ambassador of the club and hobby has passed on
. . .
. Ronald V. Barnett, Union
Grove,
AL
Ron was an avid
collector of vintage vehicles, both two wheeled and four
wheeled. He especially loved driving the bride and groom for
weddings and driving in parades. He was active in the AACA
North Alabama Region, serving as president and national meet
chairman. He was a member of the AACA board of directors for
15 years and served as AACA National President in 1991. He
was also the recipient of five national awards for service
and achievement. No obituary could ever do his legacy in
this hobby justice. Our condolences to his wife, Sally and
family.
Quotes from fellow
car enthusiasts and acquaintances:
"Lost for words.
Tears no problem. Ron loved family, life, AACA, the old
car hobby and of course this forum" (AACA Forum)
"He will be missed
by a whole legion of friends and family. "Mr. Marmon",
"Mr. Pipe", "Mr. Moustache" or "Mr. Sherlock Holmes Hat",
whatever your memory of him will sure be lasting."
"What a wonderful
mentor he was . . ."
"We had come to
know Ron as a good friend and "old car nut".
"Always positive
. . . Always constructive. . . Always a friend"
Truly will be
missed by all!

Dear AACA Member:
There is good NEWS. Your AACA
Board authorized a Strategic Planning (a plan for the
future of AACA) session this past summer which will be
presented to the full Board during the Hershey meet. One
of the concerns of the Communication Committee was how to
keep our 60,000 members informed and engaged in AACA
activities. A number of ideas will be recommended to the
full Board, but one thing was easy to accomplish was to
send you periodically an email full of National and local
information.
Our plan is to send this and future emails to all our
members and naturally you will have the ability to opt out
if you so desire (we think you won't). This year we have
added an email address to our renewal forms, so make sure
you fill that out. We want to communicate with all of you
and that is our goal! An alternative way is to provide us
with email addresses of the members in your region or
chapters. Have a sign up sheet at your next meeting and
email those address to
speedster@aaca.org.
We also encourage you to send the email address of
non-members who you think would enjoy the email and might
want to become members. Just note that they are
non-members.
We plan to cover a variety of subjects in the coming
months. The 2009 membership benefits have been enhanced,
so be sure to read below. Did you know that there are a
number of automobile related magazines, that I am sure you
read, that you can get at discount if you are an AACA
member?
This is Your newsletter. We encourage information about
your local club that may be of interest to other AACA
Members. We encourage photos and short stories about our
members and/or their vehicles. Know of any heroics
performed by one of our members - - well lets hear them.
This is a new feature and it will get better! Let us know
what you would like to be included in some future
Speedster editions. Remember this can help all of us
get timely information out about you, your region and
AACA! Enjoy!
