Thank you for all the comments and feedback!
We appreciate the response and enjoy hearing from you!
As we enter the fall season remember to help grow our
AACA family and bring a youngster to an event! Car shows
are full of excitement and great sites to see, a perfect
place for a family to bond and a child to start
enjoying the hobby together with you! You will find that
many car shows have kid-friendly exhibits and
activities. So share your appreciation for cars and bring
a young relative, neighbor, or friend to a car show!

The opportunities to enjoy our
AACA family friendly community are endless! Open up
your garage to curious neighbors, bring a young
'co-pilot' along for a tour, show off some pictures of
your collection, buy a child a collector toy car on a
special occasion, help others learn to appreciate the
hobby even at a young age!

AACA's LARGEST NATIONAL
MEET!
In
1955 Hershey, PA was granted to host the annual Eastern Fall
Division meet The very first meet was held on October 8th &
9th 1955 in the Hershey Stadium. At that first Eastern Fall
meet there was approximately 400 cars registered for
judging. Although with heavy rains that down poured on the
weekend (something we are all too familiar with), only about
300 stuck around for the judging. The flea market too was at
its very early stages, with only seven vendors stationed,
selling an assortment of car parts.
The annual fall meet grew quickly and in 1960 it was
declared the largest gathering of antique cars in the world
with a total of 891 vehicles registered that year. As
participants continued to grow, the following year judging
had to be moved to the nearby field while the flea market
flourished in the field along side the road by the stadium.
Today, the Eastern Fall meet brings on over 250,000 people
to see approximately 1,300 show cars, with about 460 judges,
over 3,000 vendors and nearly 10,000 flea market spots
spread out over 300 acres of land and parking lot space!

figurines are American made by Byers' Choice and highly
collectable. AACA hopes to introduce a series of these

As well as

website. In
addition we have a selection of beautiful 75th anniversary
memorabilia. From pins, signs, license plates, to a 1935

Library & Research
Name that Car By
Chris Ritter
What do you do when
you stumble upon an old photo of a family member, friend,
or even a complete stranger? As an old car nut, I imagine
you first look for old cars, and then you see if you can
identify the cars. Many people who try this and can not
get a positive ID on the car contact the AACA Library &
Research Center for help. At least once a week we get to
identify "mystery vehicles". There are times when we can
identify a vehicle within minutes, while other mysteries
go unsolved.
It is fun to hear the back stories that go along with
the photos; "This is my grandmother on her 18th birthday"
or "I picked this
neat
old
photograph at a yard sale and had to know
what kind of car was pictured." My favorite tale came
from a gentleman who had a picture of his father on a
very old motorcycle. "Dad said it was a Harley, but mom
insists it was an Indian." In this case, "dad" was
right and is pictured here on a 1928 Harley Davidson.
If you have a picture of an unidentified vehicle, we
will do our best to identify it for you. All you have
to do is submit a copy of the picture along with our
research request form
and the $10 processing fee. As a current AACA member
you are eligible for 1 ½ hours of free research from the
library.
Pictured below are a couple of other vehicles that we
recently identified:

Headquarters Starting Grid
Meet Lynn Gawel!
By Ann Kulp
A match made in
heaven and in the garage, literally! If you say your "I
do's" witnessed not only by loving family and friends but
also your treasured collection of antique and classic
vehicles ... you are passionate "car folks" indeed! Paul
and Lynn Gawel are just that! They have a genuine love and
infectious enthusiasm for life, and for our wonderful
hobby.
Therefore, it was
another perfect match when Lynn joined the AACA team in
February 2006. Initially on the AACA library staff, she
worked on expanding the

In March 2008, Lynn assumed her

pitches in whenever and wherever necessary, her primary
responsibilities include region/chapter affairs
communicating with our over 380 regions and chapters,
and judging program vehicle administration. She also
coordinates trophy requirements and performs engraving
for national events, responds to national event
information requests, collaborates extensively with
national event region representatives, revises the AACA
winners book, manages the "I Got a Member" program, and
serves as co-editor of WHEELS, our youth newsletter.

"I enjoy speaking with our members and responding to
their requests, particularly where it provides an
opportunity to research vehicle histories," Lynn
explained. "And, building relationships with members,
regions and chapters to help ensure their ongoing
success and growth of our hobby, continues to be very
gratifying."
