OCW Editor
Angelo Van Bogart Says Lawsuit vs. Leno is Bogus
Wendy Lubin, daughter of John W. Straus, the grandson of the
founder of the Macy's department store chain, has sued
Jay Leno
and others over the value of cars sold by Straus when he was ill. One of
the targets is a 1931 Duesenberg that was supposedly bought way under
value.
However,
OCW Editor Angelo Van Bogart contends this
lawsuit is uncalled for in his
Under the Hood Blog based on the values tossed about in the lawsuit. |

Tough Economy Doesn't
Show at Wisconsin Event
Considering
the economic crisis brewing on Wall Street and from coast to coast, the
Wisconsin Fall Jefferson Car Show and Swap Meet was a surprising
people-packed event that filled the Jefferson County Fairgrounds with
vendors and vintage vehicles for sale.
I attended the Saturday venue and had to wait an hour and a half to wind
my way into Madison Classic's huge flea market and car corral. Corvettes
were the featured car with three rare examples in the main hall.

Heater in Unventilated Trailer Blamed
Two
men were found dead at an antique car swap meet in
Chickasha, Okla.,
and police say it appears they died of
carbon monoxide poisoning.
The bodies of 63-year-old Burl Mandrell of Olton, Texas, and his
40-year-old son Jamie Mandrell of Guymon were found in their trailer at
the Grady County Fairgrounds.
Assistant Police Chief Maj. Elip Moore said there was a propane heater
in the trailer and no ventilation. Moore said when the two failed to set
up their booth, another vendor checked on them and found them dead.

Museum to be Built in
Two 10,000 Sq. Ft. Phases
Lincoln will have a new home. It won't be a log cabin in Illinois or
a mansion in Washington, D.C., but a sparkling new structure worthy of
the Lincoln name in Hickory Corners, Mich.
During the recent Lincoln car meet in the New Hampshire White Mountains,
the Lincoln Motor Car Foundation made a dramatic announcement: the
long-anticipated
Lincoln Motor Car Museum will be built on the
campus of the
Gilmore Car Museum. The first phase is expected to
be completed in
2010.

1941-48 Town and
Country Models Honored
The
1941-48 Chrysler Town and Country has been added to the
Classic Car Club of America's list of "Approved Full Classic Cars."
Old Cars Weekly reached
Bob Joynt, who is head of
the CCCA Classification Committee. Joynt said the approval is for
1941-48 Town and Country models only.
Terry Johnson of Colorado, who has pushed for years for this
change, said, "I can't tell you how happy I am to finally achieve this
designation at CCCA. I guess the old saying of never, ever give up is
demonstrated here."
