Chevelle: $100,000 Show Car Takes a Dive
This award-winning 1970 Chevelle SS 454 recently was spied by a
Volo Auto Museum staff member as they visited a nearby resort on the
Chain O’ Lakes.
The car's previous owner spent $100,000 on a frame-off restoration. Too
bad it didn't include water-proofing.
To learn how this former show car ended up in the drink, click here.

defensive line for the 1996 world champions, will be on hand in Iola on
Thursday and Friday, with autograph sessions each day from 2-4 p.m. near
the Milwaukee Mile NASCAR simulator. On his

“Barn Find” Autos See Light of Day
For years, car lovers have heard the story of the elusive, legendary car
hidden away in a barn, and although Indiana Jones told his students that
contrary to popular myth, “X” never marks
the spot, the Saratoga Automobile Museum will become a veritable
treasure trove of "found" cars later this month.

Little Cars Could Bring BIG Prize at Iola Car Show
Size really doesn't matter to many car collectors. And despite
the fact that the Iola Old Car Show is one of the biggest in the
region, its organizers haven't forgotten about those collectors that
like to be able to keep their entire collection in their pocket.
Toy Cars & Models editor Merry Dudley, who has been attending the
Iola Old Car Show for 27 years, will be on hand with Frankie (a 1964
Ford Falcon convertible) to talk about model cars both large and small.
While we can guarantee you that an opportunity to spend a few minutes
chatting with Merry is a "prize" in itself, be sure to find her at the
show for your chance to win a special prize from Toy Cars & Models
magazine.

Blue Ribbon Concours cars spilling out of their blue-roped

Old Car Show was bigger and better than ever.

Great
American Race Roars to Grand Finish
Over 60 old classic cars, muscle cars and hot rods roared
across the finish line of The Great American Race earlier this month in
Anaheim.
Seventy-two teams started the race, with only 57 finishing. The route
across America proved especially tough for the classic cars and racers
as they endured torrential downpours including hail, desert heat and
steep-mountain climbs.
To see which car crossed the finish line first, CLICK HERE. |

Classic Car Hobby Dealt "Crushing" Blow
During
a recent road trip, Old Cars Weekly editor Ron Kowalke came to
the realization that the recent rise in scrap metal prices was rapidly
ushering in the end of an era.
Family owned salvage yards are disappearing at an alarming rate. While
the trend has been a long time coming, many classic car enthusiasts are
wondering what impact will the destruction of thousands of parts cars
have on the hobby?
Ron is currently working on an in-depth article dealing with this
troubling issue.

Cars Damaged In Tulsa: Move Over "Miss Belvedere'
If you are considering taking your classic car to Tulsa in the near
future, underground parking may be your best bet. According to local
news reports, while hundreds of show cars were on display downtown, some
type of spray or film, mysteriously covered many of the cars damaging
their paint and trim.
"If you feel the paint job, it's as rough as sandpaper," said 1969 GTO
Judge owner Larry Ritz.

Blog: Billboards in Heaven?
It's no secret that I avoid interstate highways, preferring the
charm and unique sights of the "blue highways" over the monotony and
billboard jungles of the I-system.
I'm not sure how this sprawl of in-your-face billboard advertising along
the I-system got approved, but I'm sure one former First Lady also
sought out alternate routes to avoid this ad glut.

Fingerprints
'No Problem' for New Auto Museum
Howard Hughes bought a 1955 Packard Caribbean convertible, gave it to
his wife, actress Jean Peters, drove it to Malibu a few times before
parking it at her house in Beverly Hills where it stayed until the early
1970s.
That's when Stan Zimmerman bought it with only 1,752 miles on the
odometer.
The car's history makes it remarkable. But what makes the car really
stand out is the fact that it's one of only a half-dozen antique
vehicles that are kept behind glass at the Automobile Driving Museum in
El Segundo, Calif.
To learn how you can get "up close and personal" with the museum's
collection, CLICK HERE. |
