It was a little cool and windy (Shirley was able to catch my hat once when it blew off) but I was still able to snap a few pictures as I listened to John tell the history of his '23 Dodge. There are about 35 pictures in this group so far, I've got more. Let me know how you like this "slide show" presentation as opposed to the "collage" grouping of pictures in all the other Waukegan events. Contact me at: ilregionaaca@aol.com
John and Shirley Davidson's Picnic Tour Sunday August 8, 2004 We stopped at the Kenosha Lakeshore to see the Tall Ships and got an added bonus. A local fisherman has seen this guy driving around Kenosha (is that a '57 Chevy?) in and out of the water all summer long.
We started the Tour at the Nostalgia McDonalds in Gurnee Mills. Out in front is a black 1957 Chevy sorely in need of some Meguiars # 34. Inside is some NASCAR, some old Chevys and some longtime members: Ann & Jim Martin escaped the Arizona heat for some beautiful Chicago weather. JUST CLICK ON EACH PICTURE TO GET A BETTER VIEW. Dan planned a great Tour through northern Lake County, IL. into Kenosha County, Wi. Our first stop was at The Kenosha History Center founded in 1878 by The Kenosha County Historical Society. The Center displayed unusual WW II items, a Thomas Jeffery area that showed some early Ramblers, and a large AMC display with about eight significant cars. Across from the History Center were three Tall Ships with an assortment of boats passing by. From here it was straight across Rt. 50 to the Davidsons' and FOOD! There was Chicken, Bar-B-Q Pork, farm fresh Tomatoes & Corn on the Cob ! We started out with John & Mary Otto and we're ending up with John & Mary Otto. I don't know how that happened but John & Mary's Terraplane was a fine addition to our Tour. They have put a lot of hard work into that automobile. As you can see, everyone had a wonderful time at the picnic! The food was fantastic, while in the company of old friends and new, with a perfect setting for some great looking automobiles!! A big THANK YOU to John & Shirley Davidson for organizing the food and cooking the corn! It's great to have the" Davidson Picnic" back again!! Thanks again to Dan Helgren, who's getting to be an old hand at setting up these Tours. The Tour through the countryside was nice, and the Historical Center was very interesting, and the Tall Ships were awesome and the weather was perfect!! What more could you ask for!! Thank you Dan and John and Shirley for a perfect day!!!
FATHER'S DAY TOUR & PICNIC SUNDAY JUNE 20, 2004
A great big THANK YOU goes out to the men responsible for our Tour & picnic. Dan Helgren, Steve & Myrna Kolish and John & Jan Looby were all involved in planning the Tour with everyone ending up at the Looby's back yard. More than 50 cars and over 110 people participated. But I'm getting ahead of myself here. The Tour started at Lake Forest Sportscars by Mancuso. An Automotive Family since 1923 Coffee and donuts were available for members browsing some beautiful and very impressive Sportscars: Ferraris - Maseratis - Lamborghinis. Thank you to Rick Mancuso for allowing our special viewing of his Showrooms and thanks to Tyler for info on each car. The need for speed and muscle is apparent in the back room also where some Porsches, a couple of Vets and a GTO were also available. While in the parking lot of Lake Forest Sportscars are some cars of a different vintage. Some old , some new, some "Sportscars" too. Leaving the parking lot, we were treated to a two hour tour of Lake Forest/Lake Bluff area that showed us some beautiful old homes surrounded by trees, lots of huge Oak trees, and some brand new housing developments where some huge houses were being built. We went by the most expensive house in the area, $25 Million. Mr. T's old house was having some trees replaced by it's present owner. And here's a 1954 or '55 Desoto (I think, maybe someone can tell me the correct Make & Model) sitting out in front of one of the homes along the way. Laura took a picture from our '60 Chevy Convertible as we past by this good looking surprise. By the time we had gone down and around a cul-de-sac the whole family was outside waving as we drove by.
We stopped at the Lake Forest Train Station half way through the tour.
The ultimate goal of course is FOOD in the Looby's backyard!! As you can see John & Jan Looby worked hard to create a perfect setting. Food under the Tent is somehow better. Conversations with old friends are good no matter where and meeting new people is one of the benefits of owning an Antique Automobile. Thanks again to John and Jan and Family for all their hard work.
Here are some cars parked in front of John's house.
April 25 Dust - off Tour
Just click on each picture to get a better view. The Waukegan Chapter has an Event happening every month. April 25, was our combined Waukegan/N.S. Chapter Dust-off Tour. 37 old cars gathered outside at Jack & Cheri Runnfeldt's house, while inside, 73 members enjoyed snacks prepared by Cheri, whose 50's era memorabilia through out the house was something to behold: Cheri was up early preparing and we want to thank her for all her hard work and we would like to thank Jack for having a garage (and what was in it) A great start to a great day of touring put together by Mr. Dick Murray. We had beautiful weather.
Next it was on to Knaus Continental Autos.
Now to the most important part of the Tour!! And a good time was had by all!!!
