"The Illinois Railway Museum is the
largest railroad museum in the United States, with an unparalleled collection
of railroad rolling stock, equipment, structures, and artifacts.
Founded in 1953, IRM is an
all-volunteer non-profit organization operated by its members. All
equipment restoration, railroad operations, and business functions are done by
volunteers. IRM's members donate their time and skills so that their
visitors can experience the history and romance of railroading first-hand.
The Museum is funded by donations, admissions, and concession sales, without
government funding or tax dollars."
