This is our 1962 Willys Jeep Station Wagon. It has
been in our family since it was new; it was a daily driver for
over 35 years. The engine has never been overhauled or even
out of the jeep. It was passed to me in 1991 by my parents. I
had it repainted and reupholstered in 1993. It has been to
several shows over the years and has won first place several
times.
I have promised it to my Grandson in keeping with my parents
wishes that it stay in the family.

Library & Research By Chris
Ritter
Did you know that the AACA Library & Research Center owns more
than 40,000 periodicals? The collection consumes over 1,650
linear feet and is very diverse. Some of the periodicals were
printed in the 1880's and we subscribe to more than 230 titles
today. As discussed in the July issue of Speedster, these
periodicals will not show up in our online catalog but you can
download a list of our
holdings here.
Some of our periodical collections get used more than others.
One such example is MoToR. This title, which started
publication in 1903, is a treasure trove for researchers. In
addition to some absolutely beautiful cover work, issues from
the early 1900's were packed full of vehicle specifications,
sales advice, and industry & dealer news.
Can
you help us?
While we have a tremendous collection of MoToR, there are a
few issues we are missing. If you have any of the issues
listed here, would you consider donating or selling them
to the library? The AACA Library & Research Center is an
ideal location for the preservation of materials. We have a
temperature/humidity controlled environment, an alarm system,
and a bright future. By adding your material to the library
you are sharing your automotive literature with hobbyists
across the globe. Keep in mind that any donation you make to
the library is tax deductible.

Region Recognition
South Jersey Region
By Fran Shore
South Jersey Region is an active AACA Region and one of the
smaller AACA Regions. The membership works very hard preparing
and holding their once a year swap meet each Spring. Everyone
works and it is a total commitment of time for these members.
The money raised is then generously given during the year. This
region is a strong supporter of the AACA Library and Research
Center, the AACA Museum and any fundraising needs of the AACA.
The community involvement is a tribute to their member's love
and appreciation of their own community. They have donated
heavily each year from their swap meet income and in just this
past year they gave to the Alex's Cancer Kids Lemonade Stand
charity, donated money to purchase uniforms for the Penn Grove
Carney Point Explorers Group for their area, donated six fully
equipped tool boxes, carts and two oil catheters to their local
Vo-Tec school.

They donate to Woodstown for the use of a meeting room in the
town hall. The Region provides vehicles for many parades,
festivals and other events in the area. In addition, the South
Jersey Region sponsors two cruise-ins a month during the summer
and enjoys a turnout of interested hobbyists ranging from over
40 cars for one area and for another area, over 140 cars. They
are promoting the hobby and the AACA on both evenings.
South Jersey Region visits the AACA organizations in Hershey,
Pennsylvania every few years. In late October of 2009 the
region made a weekend tour to Hershey to enjoy and learn more
about the AACA Library and how to access the library by
computer for information , they toured the AACA Museum and
enjoyed the exhibits. The region is proud of being part of the
AACA family.

AACA Librarian, Chris Ritter hosts some of the members of the
South Jersey Region on their October 2009 visit.

Museum Happenings!
The
Museum was filled with young trick or treaters decked out in
costumes for this new 'Trunk or Treat' program over
Halloween weekend.

As the
kids filed in the Museum they started off by creating their own
treat bags using various car and Halloween decorations. Next
they ventured off to hunt for treats
throughout the Museum exhibits.
Museum
volunteers were dressed for the occasion and special Halloween
themed videos were being played at the theatre. In lieu of the
festivities the Museum featured two unique hearse displays.
The event was a success and a fun and safe way for kids to
enjoy the Halloween holiday while exploring the exhibits in
the Museum "We're always looking for ways to engage our
visitors" says Nancy Gates, the Director of Marketing and
Operations for the Museum "this opportunity allows us to tie
together the love of the car hobby with treats for kids as
they learn about the history and fun of the car hobby."

Member Spotlight -
Headquarters Starting Grid
Meet Adriana Bruno
Looks like it's my turn from
the AACA headquarters for the Member Spotlight, so I will
gladly take this opportunity to introduce myself!
I joined the AACA family as the Marketing Communications
Manager at the beginning of August. I was greeted with a
kind and warm arrival and was ready to jump in! I have been
getting acquainted with all our advertising accounts and in
full swing of things now. Things are moving along swimmingly
and I am very happy to be a part of the AACA!
As you noticed we have launched a new design for our
SPEEDSTER e-newsletter. I have also recently taken on the
title as 'co-editor' for our Children's newsletter, Wheels,
where I will be working collaboratively with Chris Ritter
from the Library on forth coming issues. I experienced my
first Hershey Fall meet as a part of the AACA team this
fall, it was a great time and I was thankful to meet so many
of you there! So far it has been a great start and I am
looking forward to what's ahead!
___________________________________________
Things
you didn't know about Adriana
In what car did you pass your drivers license
test? A Honda Civic, I believe, but it was the
Driver's Ed car that everyone had to drive to take the
test at my school. My first car was my grandma's 1994
Plymouth Acclaim, nothing fancy that's for sure, but for
me at 16, anything with 4 wheels and an engine was
exciting to drive!
If you could live in any home on a television
series, what would it be? The Cosby's. Mr.
Huxtable always had such great advice and they seemed like
a fun family to be a part of.
Do you own any antique cars? Not yet, but
hopefully someday!
What car would you be? Maybe a
1956 Cadillac Convertible.
Where would you take your owner? A cruise
down the coast of California from San Francisco to Tijuana
going from beach to beach!
What is your favorite movie? The Princess
Bride
If you could attend an AACA meet or tour with any
celebrity alive today, who would it be? Ralph
Lauren
What is your motto in life? "Do not dwell in the
past; do not dream of the future, concentrate the mind on
the present moment." - Buddha
What is the longest you have ever waited in line
and why? Over 8 hours in a line mile upon miles
long, in a 1976 VW Westfalia, waiting to get into the
Bonnaroo Music Festival grounds in Manchester, Tennessee.
Aside from the ridiculous wait, the Bus kept stalling out.
Do you know any other languages? Yes, I
grew up speaking both English and Spanish. My mother is
from Ecuador, which we visit every few years to see our
family. I love to go visit when I can, the culture there
is truly rich and flavorful!
What is your favorite spectator sport?
Baseball! My husband, son and I love the Phillies! I am
looking forward to when my son starts playing sports so I
can watch him too!
What is your favorite way to spend your weekends?
With my whole family on my father's boat down on the
Chesapeake Bay by Havre de Grave, MD.
