The John Deere Pavilion

The John Deere Pavilion and its unique, hands-on look at the past, present and future of agribusiness and houses the world's largest agricultural exhibit.

Interesting Facts

The oldest John Deere plow in existence is located in the Smithsonian.

John Deere, Deere & Company founder, sold plows in 1855 for between $7.25 and $21.00.

The first cast iron plow was patented in the United States in 1797.

John Deere was elected the second mayor of Moline, Illinois in 1873.

The American farmer felt that using something other than wood "poisoned the land, injured its fertility, and promoted the growth of weeds." This opposition soon faded.

The first deer depicted in John Deere's trademark was actually a deer common to Africa. It gradually was changed to become a deer native to the United States.

Bob Wright, a Deere advertising employee, came up with the slogan "Nothing Runs like a Deere" in the early 1970s.

The average life expectancy of a combine is 10 years or 3,000-3,500 hours.

675,000 gallons of paint are used each year by Deere & Company.

CD players are options in the cabs of John Deere agricultural equipment.

The front tire of a John Deere combine measures 5 feet 4 inches high.

In the first four weeks of operation, the John Deere Pavilion recorded 55,000 visitors.

Originally 5,000 square feet, the Deere-Wiman House, or Overlook as the Deere family knew it, has had numerous renovations and additions. Today the home boasts over 15,000 square feet.
