Introduction: The Historic Virginia Peninsula Region (HVPR) of the Antique Automobile Club of America (AACA) met on Sunday, October 2, 2005, behind the Riverside Baptist Church on River Road, Newport News, VA. There were 36 members in attendance, plus 1 guest, Anastasia’s special friend, Allan Messick. A "pot-luck" picnic, including fried chicken supplied by the club and various entrees brought by the members, was enjoyed in beautiful weather on the banks of the scenic James River. Call to Order & the Blessing: In the absence of the Pres. Tarr and VP Tim Buris, the meeting was called to order by Meet Chairman Jim Bostic at approximately 2 PM. Chaplain Anastasia Cassidy offered the blessing. Welcome & Personal Announcements: Jim welcomed all members and guests. Those celebrating wedding anniversaries in September & October included Tim & Jeannette Buris (22 yrs), and George & Linda Bennett (38 yrs). Those celebrating birthdays included Jeannette Buris (Oct 16th) and Peggy Vahl (Sept 30th). Jim recognized members Lloyd & Dora Williams and Boyd & Peggy Sheppard, who were unable to attend recent past meetings. Clay Drnec recently acquired a ’78 Corvette Pace Car. Old Business: 1. Jim thanked the 52 members and 2 guests that helped to prepare for and execute the Fall Roundup. The non-members were Terry and Pat Ward’s son, and Charlie Edmonson of Towne Bank, one of our sponsors. The meet was great success. Pictures will appear in the October issue of the "Auto Tidings", and soon on the website. 2. Jim thanked Howard & Mable Hodnett and family for volunteering to host the Roundup picnic and meeting. Howard then introduced Jerry & Judy Allen, their son and daughter-in-law who assisted in hosting the picnic. Jerry read "Howard Hodnett’s Historical Highlights", a historical overview of the church and the local area, (known as Huntington Heights), including the shipyard. 3. Jim announced that several HVPR members attended the Kiwanis Club of York car & cycle show with many bringing home trophies. Details will be in the Auto Tidings. 4. Jim stated that the October issue of the Auto Tidings is in Elaine’s laptop computer somewhere in New Hampshire, and should be completed and mailed mid October. 5. Jim announced that only 3 HVPR members attended the annual Military Retiree Appreciation Day car display at Ft. Eustis on Saturday 17th. Thanks went to Howard Hodnett, Arnold Nye, and Dick Tarr for their support. 6. Jim expressed thanks to the 6 members who attended the Tidewater Region’s annual meet on Sept 24th. They included the Beckers, Bostics, Buris’, Drnecs, Garnetts, and Hodnetts. Clay Drnec won the award for the "Longest Distance Driven" to the show. 7. The Board of Directors meeting on Monday, September 26th featured a roundtable of comments, criticisms, and ideas for improvement following the 32nd annual Fall Roundup on September 3rd. Many comments were recorded to assist in planning future events. 8. VPCCC President Hal Hartel presented an update on the Virginia Fall Classic to be held October 21-23, 2005. He stated that HVPR members need to volunteer to help orchestrate this event. 9. No old business was presented by the membership. New Business: 1. Jim announced that he has informed the President and the Board of Directors that, for personal reasons, he will no longer be able to serve as the HVPR Meet Chairman. The Board of Directors is actively seeking a replacement for him. Until the vacancy is filled, arrangements for a 2006 Roundup will not be planned, nor scheduled, with Newport News Park officials. 2. Jim announced the slate of officers for 2006 with no candidate identified for the Secretary position. He then asked for a volunteer; Jeannette Buris stepped forward to assume the duties. There were no nominations for the floor. Madison Price motioned to accept the slate of officers for 2006. George Bennett seconded the motion, and it carried. The vote in November will determine if Hal Hartel or Wayne Messick will win the two year term on the Executive Board. 3. No new business was presented by the membership.
