AFTERMATH OF HURRICANE ISABEL

Hurricane Isabel visited our area of Virginia on September 18, 2003.  If you tried to contact any of our members during that period, to include the HVPR President and/or the Webmaster, and have not been successful, we were without power for nine days.  We are slowly being reconnected with electricity, phone, and cable and as of this time, everyone has their power restored.  There is always some good news with the bad.  Not having a phone meant no telemarketer calls !  Now that was definitely a good thing.

All of us on the Virginia peninsula have been blessed.  A number of other states sent workers to help out with the enormous recovery task.  Our own electricity was reconnected by Florida Power & Light.  Workers from Waverly, Ohio, hired by FEMA, came to our assistance and picked up a lot of the debris we had piled up on the edges of our properties.  Our telephones were restored by a hard working and good natured gent from Milford, MA.  We thank all of those folks who came to help us in our time of need.  We certainly appreciate all you did for us.

Here are some pictures of the aftermath.  Needless to say it took but one day to cause this destruction, but it is taking many weeks, and will probably be several months, before we can get our lives back to "normal".

The following pictures are of the HVPR's President's backyard, where his "Pace American" car trailer was stored.  As they say, pictures are worth thousands of words.  Well, I did make a few comments.

There is a car trailer under all that lumber.

Keep looking.

Another view of the car trailer as we moved towards it to see the damage.

This is a view of the car trailer from the front. Three huge trees can be seen across the top. This view of the trailer is the back "tail gate" end.  Again, the trailer is in that debris!

A view of the back end again.  There is

really is a car trailer there!  Honest!

Three trees laid neatly on the front end.

Inside front of trailer !

Ooops!  One branch came through !

She sure is dug in there solid! !

Two more trees ready to be taken down, before they also hit the trailer!
