HVPR's Christmas Party - 2005

HVPR's festive Christmas party was held on December 5, 2005, at the United States Coast Guard Training Center's "Port of York" club, overlooking the scenic York River from Yorktown, again this year.  With the rain and wind it sure felt like it was going to snow any minute.  Sixty-two members and guests enjoyed the event, all dressed in their holiday finery.

HVPR's President Dick Tarr, starting off the evening's activities by trying to convince the gentlemen to swap ties with him.  No one would accept!

Seated at the head table (l to r) are Jeannette Buris, Tim Buris, Elaine Tarr, Richard Tarr, Beth Hartel, and Hal Hartel

Howard Hodnett presented Prez Tarr with a US Flag that had been flown over the nation's Capitol building on October 5, 2005, as ordered by Senator George Allen.  Prez Tarr was so deeply touched that he became speechless - well, for a moment anyway.  What a proud moment that was for Richard; he will be forever grateful to the Hodnetts for securing and presenting this very special gift to him.

So what is everyone looking for???  Looks like some strange ceremony.  Well, Terry Ward lost his "H" (for Hupmobile) tie tack, and everyone was asked to search around the floor.  Unfortunately, it was never recovered, but it sure made for some interesting remarks for the rest of the evening.

The "Port of York" club's Christmas tree is shown above with the gifts donated by HVPR members.  This is the third year that these gifts were donated to the Salvation Army program for needy children.  Thank you, members, for your generous contribution to their effort of making so many children happy on Christmas day.  Thanks also to Don & Mary Baker for delivering them for us.  The Salvation Army is grateful for our efforts.

  MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE

and a

HAPPY NEW YEAR, too !

We hope to see you at next year's party !
