Harford Region's 30th Anniversary
1972 - 2002
June 30, 2002 was a
beautiful day for Harford Region's 30th Anniversary Party. Antique cars began
arriving at Bulle Rock Golf Course near Havre de Grace, Maryland and lined up for their
turn to be photographed in front of the clubhouse. Inside the entrance of the
clubhouse, Diane Wheeler greeted the participants and had them sign the guest book.
Proceeding towards the dining room, the participants were greeted by Pattie Stonesifer,
who gave each couple a copy of the 30th Anniversary booklet. Kathleen Smith handed
each couple their dinner tickets as they entered the restaurant area.
A special memorial table was set up near the entrance to honor those
Harford Region members that have passed away over the years. A Memorabilia Table
contained artifacts and memories from 30 years of antique automobile fun. The theme
for the evening was "Live in the Past Lane".
A cocktail hour was held before dinner with a cash bar and hor'dourves.
Each table was decorated with flowers in blue pots with the AACA logo. Al
Burns was the emcee for the evening and made the opening remarks. Harford Region's
2002 president, Evelyn Blevins then addressed the group and welcomed the guests. A
total of 61 members and five guests participated in the evening.
Mr. John Packard, president of neighboring Chesapeake Region and board
member of the AACA Museum, Inc, was introduced. Mr. Packard announced the donation
made to the AACA Museum in Jane Armstrong's name by Harford Region. Harford Region
initiated a collection of donations earlier in the year to honor Jane's 28 years as the
club's newsletter editor. In return for the donation, Jane's name will be placed on
an interior first floor door of the museum. Mr. Packard presented Jane with a letter
and token of appreciation from the AACA Museum. Jane addressed the group to thank
them for the surprise donation.
Charter member Eugene Poole asked the blessing for the meal. The
group then enjoyed a delicious dinner prepared and served by the Bulle Rock Restaurant
staff. After dinner, additional remarks were given by Al Burns, and Evelyn Blevins
concerning Harford Region. The past Harford Region presidents were also introduced.
This was followed by a 30-minute presentation by Bruce Wheeler titled "Life in
the Past Lane - 30 years of Antique Automobile Fellowship in Harford County".
Al Burns, Evelyn Blevins and Harford Region Vice President Vernon Stonesifer then made
some final remarks about the club, its history and its future. The evening was
concluded by drawing names for winners of the table centerpieces.
