The Granite
Region is an active organization seeking to involve members and
people interested in joining the Region to participate in activities
that promote our hobby. As such, we develop projects that
interact with the community. One effort is the scholarship venture
described below.
Scholarship award
At the December
2008 membership meeting, the members voted to award an annual
scholarship in the amount of $1,000 to a graduating high school
senior planning to pursue higher education in the automotive
field. This
career could be as a restorer, mechanic, technician, designer,
engineer, automotive journalist, or other related occupation.
Since our annual
financial situation fluctuates, it will be a challenge to assure
this award will be adequately funded each year. The Club agreed
that a separate fund should be established to which members donate.
Due to our current tax status, donations would not qualify as
tax deductible contributions; however, members are encouraged
to make whatever donation possible, knowing that it will go to
a good cause.
We
hope all members will at least make a donation when renewing
their membership from now on. A contribution of $20/membership
would go a long way toward achieving this goal. For more information,
please contact Ken Sommers at MHUPP28@COMCAST.NET.
Applications are
due April 12, 2010 and the first award will be made in June,
2010.
