In 1950 the Founding Members wanted to form an antique auto club. The area was controlled by the Allegheny Region which didn't want to split the area for a new region, so they formed the Brass Age Car Club. In 1953 they were allowed to form an A.A.C.A. Region which became known as THE GETTYSBURG REGION ANTIQUE CAR CLUB OF AMERICA . There were five members who formed the club who are referred to as the "Founding Members" in 1950, and it was called the "Brass Age Car Club" at that time.

The names of the members are:
Ernest Simpson
Donald Feeser
Austin Ruth
John Basehoar
Edward Emmerson ( Deceased )

In 1953 the club requested to be a Region of the National Antique Automobile Club of America, and became a Region on February 17, 1953 under the name of "Gettysburg Region A.A.C.A."  At that time the membership was 77( or 78 ) ? people, and those people are referred to as the "Charter Members" of the Gettysburg Region A.A.C.A., as they were members of the club when it became a Region of National A.A.C.A.

History of the Gavel used by the President of the Gettysburg Region

The gavel was made by two members of the club, Roy Feeser and Ernest Simpson. The wood was fashioned by Roy Feeser and the two brass rings were made by Ernest Simpson. The wood was to represent the dash of the old car and the brass was made from the bushing of an antique car, it's make we do not know. The purpose was to have a symbol present at all times of the manufacture of the the first cars. The brass ring is in memory of the Brass Age Car Club, the forerunner of Gettysburg Region and the second Brass ring is for the current year of the Region. It should be the responsibility of the Region President to keep this gavel with it's brass well polished at all times. May you accept this gavel, not for it's material value but for what it represents and to pass it on to the Region Presidents yet to come.
