1913 Pierce Arrow
Owned by
Dave & Jan Harris
I had a long time interest
in acquiring a Pierce-Arrow with strong designs on a Pierce 66. Knowing
the scarcity of such an automobile and therefore its prohibitive price, I was
resolved to try and acquire a Model 38 or 48. the opportunity presented
itself on a trip to Hershey, when in the Pittsburgh Airport I inquired of my
friend, a reknown Pierce collector, as to the availability of his 1916 38C
Pierce-Arrow Touring. He indicated he would sell it to me and I should
call him upon my return to Minneapolis. A deal was made and in March of
1982 I went to Milwaukee to obtain the car. It had been part of his
collection for a number of years and was driven very infrequently. The
odometer showed 26,000 miles which I believe is probably correct. Upon
returning here it was necessary to put the automobile in proper time as it was
nearly impossible to keep it running. The water pump was non-functional
and had to be rebuilt. During the next winter new carpets were installed
and seat cushions replaced. The backs were lexoled and returned to their
original appearance. The gas tank was removed, cleaned and unfortunately
sealed with a product that would not harden. It was removed again, cleaned
and the gas line replaced. The next project was to replace the wiring and
have the automobile repainted as it is now a latter period blue paint. It
has a brass radiator shell along with nickel hardware.
I have driven this car nearly 25,000 miles. It has made
the State
of Michigan and one to Missouri. We have participated in a number of tours
within the MN Region to Wisconsin, Iowa, Illinois & local tours.
Unfortunately, we had an engine fire on way to a Pierce-Arrow
meet in Springfield, Illinois, recently.
