Peter & Jacki Amabile
1955 4-door sedan
I am the proud owner of my 1955 Chevy 150 4 door sedan.
The car was considered the handyman's car in its day.
They only produced 29,989 cars. That year they made a 2 door
sedan,, 2 door station wagon and a utility sedan in the 150
models. This car was manufactured and shipped from
Atlanta in 1955 to Ross Chevrolet here in St. Petersburg.
The cowl tag on my car has an early body number, #789.
On the original bill of sale it was sold to a business
called Tropical Liquors in St. Petersburg owned by a Mr.
Arthur Meyers and Sanford Lord. They purchased the car
from Ross Chevrolet on Feb. 2, 1955, for $2,009.50.
Then in 1958 it was sold to a Mr. Lopez who kept it for a
long time. Mr. Lopez became too old to drive so it was
given to his Granddaughter who really disliked the car.
It was then put in the local Seminole paper for sale for
$600. On Sept. 22, 1980, I became the proud owner.
This car from the factory had no radio, no heater and no oil
filter. It has 235 6cyl engine which I rebuilt in
1995. The car now is a work in progress. Loving
it everyday. The most interesting thing about this car
is one of the original owners, in 1955, used to live a few
blocks from where I live now. I am sure this car has
traveled on the same roads here in St. Pete all it life.
If it could only talk!
