The beautiful 1957
Chevrolet Corvette pictured is owned by longtime members, Dick &
Roberta Robinson. They, and their son, Bill,
reside in Fort Washington, PA.
Dick is the brother of
another longtime member, Bob Robinson, and the son of one of our club’s
founding members, Robert Robinson, Sr., who was the club’s second
President (1957).
As a result of having a
father involved in the hobby, Dick began working on his father’s 1914
Ford when he was 12 years old. In his teenage years he worked on his
father’s brass era and classic cars. He then got interested in V8 Ford
hot rods. He restored a brass 1913 Hupmobile, then V8 Fords, and for the
last 22 years has restored Corvettes.
In 2001, after searching
for nearly 14 years for an original, unmolested, late serial number ‘57
Corvette, Dick found this one in New Jersey. He then did a complete
restoration of all the original components to factory appearance and
performance.
The corvette has a 283
cubic inch/283 HP fuel injected engine with a 4-speed transmission and
posi-traction rear. It also has aluminum body bracing, radio and heater,
and two tops.
Dick has won the Duntov
Award from the National Corvette Restorers Society. He has driven the
car several thousand miles on tours, and plans to continue to drive and
enjoy his beautiful car. He
would never sell it, because it is not replaceable.
