If you didn't make it to the show at SOMERBY AT St. Vincent's One Nineteen, you missed a real treat. The weather and morning where BEAUTIFUL. Another perfect day to pull the old iron out of the garage and let others enjoy the beauty of our hobby. We had 19 automobiles and the residents absolutely LOVED being outside and telling their recollections of what we consider to be the early days of the automobiles!! I always enjoys these tales of old. Leslie Doss, our hostess, told us that we would be the talk of the complex all week. From Randy gallivanting with several cars full of beautiful women, to a 91 year old gentlemen having his picture made in Bill Gardner's Model T, to talking with a gentleman who's dad sold cars in Florence in the 1920's, a great time was had by all. We were also told that people who never left their apartments, came outside for a look. We look forward to being asked back next year.

Please remember we are eating at the Hwy 31 Red Lobster on the regular 4th Tuesday which is April 24th. Our Dixie Region joined with the Packard Club and we met at Don Taccone’s mechanic shop for a hands on demonstration of the revolutionary 1956 Packard self-leveling suspension system for our March Activity. Don has a full service mechanic shop and service station at Gable Square in the 800 block of 10th Avenue South near UAB. His father started the business in 1954 and Don runs it to this day. Dixie Region Board Member Tim Stout brought an original Packard demonstration video as a preview for the large crowd that came to watch and learn. Don, thank you again.
After the demonstration, both groups walked over to Giuseppe’s Italian restaurant for a delicious meal and family fellowship. We got to make some new friends who love the car hobby as much as we do. It was so successful we are already making plans for another program for both groups. We were also glad to have Eddie and Suzanne Bibb’s son “Brad” as our guest and hope he returns soon.
We were also joined by Barbara and Charles Clinton. Charles had a pacemaker put in last week so please remember him in your thoughts and prayers for a continued speedy recovery.
Treasurer Jeff Senkbeil led a group of Dixie Region members to Horseshoe Bend March 24th. They joined the Southeastern Region and had a very large gathering to enjoy the events. Please see Jeff’s write up of the day on our website at WWW.AACA.ORG/DIXIE.
AACA National has approved a new program called (MAP) Mileage Award Program for members who enjoy driving their antique cars (25 years or older). Please see the details attached below and on our website. This is a great idea and I know it will be used by Eddie Bibb who drives nationwide and John and Alverta Cover who drive long distances all over the country. The program also includes local travel mileage too, so let’s get driving! Please click on the link below for more information.
