AACA CHIP Program ACTV #012 Level 3 “Intermediate (15) ”

Activity Overview: Intermediate (15) Model Building

Objective: To purchase an automobile or truck model and correctly assemble it using the proper glue. Also be able to paint each of the major components the correct color for the year, make, and model of the vehicle.

Activity Requirements

  1. Purchase or obtain, a plastic model that is representative of a vehicle that is at least 25 years old.

  2. Review the assembly instructions that are enclosed with the model.

  3. While reviewing the instructions, note that certain major parts are supposed to be certain colors.

  4. Review in the instructions where any decals that are supplied belong on your model.

  5. Begin the assembly process, carefully following the instructions.

  6. Paint the various parts of the model the correct color for the year, make, and model.

  7. Be as neat as you can. The attempt is to make your model look as close to the real thing as possible.

  8. See if you can locate any copies of original advertisements or sales brochures for your particular vehicle.

Activity Report

  1. Write a brief report about the model you built. In it describe how you went about choosing your model, and how you assembled the model. Also include some information on what type of vehicle it is. Who built it, what year it is, what engines were available in that particular model, what options were available, if possible.

  2. Submit pictures of your model and your report for review and appro.

Activity Resources

  1. Visit your local hobby shop, or toy store to see what models are available.

  2. Visit your local library to see if there are any books or magazines on that particular vehicle.

  3. Contact the AACA library and ask if there is any information available for that particular vehicle
