Judging Seminar 2005
Reported by Chief Judge Tom Young
The Club's annual Judging Seminar at Old Car John's on April 16 had an excellent turnout, the largest in memory. As usual, John Krupinsky laid out his shop space to accommodate classroom type seating and car display space.
This year we had multiple cars to look over. Members who brought cars for evaluation: Thomas Kenney, 1955 DeSoto hardtop; John Watkins, 1965 Buick Riviera; Jim Synodinos, 1941 Packard 160 touring sedan; and John Krupinsky, 1940 Ford convertible. The DeSoto and Buick were inside and the Packard and Ford outside in the rear driveway.
The program had two parts - Ted Schneider gave a short presentation about the HPOF (Historic Preservation of Original Features) class that is growing rapidly at AACA national meets. Although this is the 18th year of HPOF judging, AACA held its first HPOF judging school at the Annual Meeting, which Ted attended. The new AACA Judging Manual was described and the HPOF judging criteria and form were discussed.
Then we had presentations by Thomas Kenney and John Watkins about the goals for their respective cars and what restoration work they felt remained. The group, proceeded to walk around both cars asking questions and offering suggestions. Outside, there was ample time for the group to ask questions about the Packard and Ford.
Thanks to John Krupinsky, who always graciously makes his shop available for the Judging Seminar. Also thanks to Thomas Kenney, John Watkins, and Jim Synodinos for bringing cars.
In addition to those members already mentioned,
participating were: Ed Allen, Dick Bandel, Dave Benson, Ben Gugliuzza, Paul
Habicht, Norm Heathcote, Mildred and Al Lawson, Dan Materazzi, Art Petrucci, Joe
Sordillo, and Harry Wilhelm, Jr.
