AACA Southeastern Divisional Tour
Birmingham, AL
April 15-19

Hosted by the Dixie Region

The AACA Dixie Region welcomes you to “Alabama the Beautiful” and Birmingham “The Magic City”. Come and enjoy our hospitality, spring weather and foliage. We have three interesting tour days near Birmingham planned for your enjoyment on secondary roads. No interstate driving will be necessary and each day’s drive is less than 90 miles.

Wed. April 15
: The fun begins with a welcome reception.

Thurs. April 16: Visit Barber Motorsports Vintage Motorsports museum (home of the largest motorcycle and Lotus car collections in the world) We continue to the Bass Pro Shop (one of the newest and largest) and the Birmingham Botanical Gardens (optional visit to Birmingham Zoo).

Fri. April 17: Visit Tannehill State Park and museum (this museum explains the history of the Birmingham steel industry and craft cabins display local Alabama craftsmen) and Vulcan Park/museum (where the statue of Vulcan is located and Birmingham’s history is told). Vulcan was sculpted by artist Giuseppe Moretti for steel town Birmingham as an exhibit for the Palace of Mines and Metallurgy at the 1904 St. Louis World's Fair. He was (and still is) the world's largest cast metal statue and the largest statue ever made in the U.S. His height was originally planned for 50 feet, but when Birmingham learned that a pagan Buddha in Tokyo stood 52 feet tall, they made their pagan Vulcan four feet taller.

Sat. April 18: We will visit the private antique car museum of Ron and Liz Moore (many Classics and coffee break), Old Car Heaven (mostly Mopar). We will then travel to the very interesting Birmingham Civil Rights Institute which chronicles the civil rights struggle. Saturday evening we will enjoy the closing banquet at Christ Church United Methodist.
