Tar spots |

In these days of tarred and oiled roads, it is no uncommon thing to find great spots of tar on the painted or varnished surfaces of the car's bodywork. Before taking the knife to scrape this substance off, cover the spot well with lard and olive oil, which will soften the tar so that you can remove it without great damage to the woodwork underneath.
