for neutralizing battery acid

Sulfuric acid in a more or less strong solution is used for the electrolyte of the storage battery, and in handling the solution is not unusual to spill some of it upon clothing or upon finished parts of the car. If left, this will destroy such articles, and it is well to remember that there is nothing better than ammonia to neutralize the effect. When mixed with Vaseline and used upon the battery terminals, the ammonia also serves a useful purpose in preventing corrosion.
