Annual Garage Tour

by  Ted Richardson

The garage tour had been planned for several months. As the big day approached Gary called to say that Shirley had a bad fall in their home on 13 Sep and according to the Doctor after reading the x-rays she suffered two fractures; one of the joint on her shoulder, and the other of the shoulder blade. He stated:  “I think she would be more comfortable if we put the dinner off until later, and besides you don't want ME making the sauce.”  They were both very disappointed about having to cancel the dinner.

However, the garage tour portion of the day was still on the schedule. Ardith and I arrived at Bob and Janet Best’s home around 12:30 pm.  Bob, Richard, and Linda Kerston were sitting in the Best’s motorhome, enjoying the luxury RV life style. Chuck and Phyllis Benner, Paul and Joannie Blackburn arrived shortly afterwards.  The guys stayed in the garage and the girls joined Janet inside their home.  We all then departed for Ray and Cherry’s O’Connell’s garage.  Lots to see there as 2 cars had their hoods off.  All enjoyed sticking their heads in the engine compartments.

After about a half hour it was off to Linda and Richard’s garage.  Here some serious “horse” trading was in the making with Bob and Paul ended up with some “great finds.” Chuck swears that he didn’t get anything, but Phyllis still isn’t sure about that!  We all decided to go to Alice’s in Palmdale for dinner.  Even though it wasn’t as good as Shirley’s spaghetti dinner, we all enjoyed the company and seeing everyone’s garage.  Get well Shirley, we missed you and Gary!
