Message from the President – May 2004
We have just finished one of the busiest months so far this year. Trying to juggle people between furnishing cars for the AAA/Ford Competition at UAA, cars and volunteering at the MATI (Museum of Alaska Transportation and Industry) to clean up prior to the Museum opening for the summer on 1 May 2004, and helping to coordinate efforts for the first Adopt-a-road Cleanup on Northern Lights Blvd., enlisting AAMA members and their cars to participate in the City of Seward historical celebration the “Blast of the Past” parade, and securing information on rooms available and RV sites for the joint meet of the AAMA and the Vernon Nash Antique Auto Club from Fairbanks at Trapper Creek Inn on 11, 12, and 13 June 2004. Reservations can be made now for the rooms and RV sites there, and several B & B homes are available in the area.
Saturday 8 May, we will be traveling to Seward to participate in their “Blast From the Past”. We hope that many of you can join us as it sounds like a fun time, and so far we have 20 people signed up. For all of the interested members the theme colors are blue and green, and they would like us to dress in period clothing appropriate for the year of our car.
We will meet at the Robinson’s’ Club House between 6:30 pm and 7:00 pm on 5/12/04 for a brief meeting then we will cruise the city, eventually arriving at a local restaurant for something decadent.
Michael Wiedmer will take us on a shakedown cruise to Hatcher Pass on Saturday 5/15/04. He will give us the time to arrive at the staging area, at our regular meeting on the 12th.
Dennis and I will be out of town from 27 - 31 May arriving home on 1 June. You may contact Gary Stoops, or Scott Hulse as we work with each of them almost daily.
Have a fun summer.
Diane L. Allen, President
